One of our favourite walks is along the stour at Blandford and as it was a gorgeous morning we headed off there and we were treated to a bit of a Christmas miracle.
Twelve months ago - 2nd December 2020, we walked there just to get out for an hour as it was Kira's last day and she wanted to sleep peacefully and not have me looking at her the whole time. That morning we saw my first ever kingfisher and it felt like a sign that things would be OK and we were doing the right thing.
Today I said to Nigel I wondered if Kira would send a kingfisher.
Well oh my goodness. Not only did she send a kingfisher but he perched on a branch really close to us and looked utterly splendid and of course we didn't have our cameras so I got my phone to snap a phone - it was that close it would still have been good, but I never took he photo as I was distracted by one of the gorgeous wild otters popping up literally right in front of me. It was fleeting but spectacular and he looked right at us. Sadly Nigel was watching the kingfisher and didn't see it but I asked the man next to me and he confirmed no I hadn't imagined it. I was so thrilled - I have never ever seen a wild otter before and to see it so close and staring straight at me, but I was sad Nigel hadn't seen it. We stood watching the kingfisher, now on a distant branch and then an otter swam along the river, close to the far bank and we watched him dive and frolic and lie on his back and I was even more thrilled.
Yes it would have been nice to get a photo and yes I was sad I didn't have the camera but I will never forget it - and I said a little thank you to Kira x.
Pamphill farm shop (love it there)
The avenue at Badbury rings
Tiny distant otter
And some scrapping for various challenges
Not my otter or kingfisher but EXACTLY what I took
This sculpture/model was totally amazing - so lifelike and so detailed
I have made my JYC today but it's too dark to take a photo now.
Today I am thankful for
- a glorious morning
- a kingfisher and an otter
- simple things that fill our hearts
- dinner - I can smell it cooking as I type.
