Life is a bit swamped at the moment and the thing I use as a destress when I am swamped is scrapping but I am too swamped to do scrapping. Not a positive.
I have a page to share that I made last weekend but no new scrapping since then.
I did have fun with this one as I made the leaves from stamped images onto card then coloured and embossed.
Today I am thankful for
- my new iphone - the camera is amazing
- some respite time tomorrow I hope

The one with The Boat
Today was always going to be one of our very relaxed days as we had a little travelling to do and time to just chill and watch the world go by… Oh and shop of course. We didn’t have breakfast until eight which was the latest we managed although it was interesting. I got talking to a lady at breakfast about our trip and where we were heading and she and two colleagues were on ‘official business’ and then she said, nodding at the tv where they were talking about the impending impeachment of Trump, ‘you know ... the stuff all over the news. We are investigating.’ Now in most of the hotels on the trip the people were generally older couples like us or single men obviously on business. She was a very smartly dressed mature lady and when I looked at her two travelling companions, all suited and booted and official looking, well they may as well have had special services or FBI flashing in neon over their heads. Intriguing.
Our latest start of the holiday and we were on the road by nine. The first stop we have scheduled was Tuesday morning and Joanne in Sioux Falls. You might remember I told you that tarps and renovations were going to be a feature of a holiday… You may remember the Lighthouse at Marblehead. We pulled up outside the Tuesday morning which happened to have the Joanne right next door. How convenient was that? It was in a very nice Plaza with lots of attractive shops apart from Tuesday morning and the Joanne which were covered in boards and tarpaulin being renovated once completely gutted. We both laughed so much that Nigel felt the need to get out and take a picture of the two derelict stores because it was so us this trip. I’m so glad we laugh at the same things and take pleasure in stupid things like this.
South Dakota was soon behind us as we cross the border into Iowa, another new state for us. It was a gorgeous morning with bright sunshine and we stopped at the Iowa visitor centre which was actually about. It was a good photo opportunity and we enjoyed looking both outside and in, although we did fear we might never be able to leave as the man in the visitor centre was very zealous in telling us the history of the boat, the area, Iowa, his life, his family, and all without a pause for breath meaning we couldn’t say thank you very much and we must get on our way. Eventually he paused for a moment and it was our chance for a quick getaway.
We found a Starbucks and continued on our way through Iowa to the border with Nebraska.
On both sides of the road for most of the day with huge fields of wheat and corn. They had been harvested but it led us to understand why Nebraska is called the cornhusker State. We liked the town of Omaha which seemed very much like a new town. I must look up and see if that is in fact the case. We enjoyed just meandering around, we did some shopping including a visit to a brand new leave me furbished Joanne which was huge and beautiful and had the most amazing display of wool I have ever seen.
Proof I drive!
Disconcerting to see this ahead - thankfully it was being towed not coming towards us.
Nebraska was green and unlike the Dakotas had hills and the landscape that was attractive to look at. We headed to Lincoln where we enjoyed a nice meal at the outback and saw yet another state capital building before heading to Grand Island which was our stop for the night. It was a really nice hotel and we were greeted with a goodie bag of water vouchers and even hot apple cider. It had been an unremarkable day but actually a very nice chillout before we got to the second part of our trip which was Kansas and Route 66.
Oh, the layout with the leaves--magnificent! I can hardly believe they were handmade! I take that back. Yes, I can believe it--you are such an amazing artist.
It was interesting to see that the IA visitors' center was a boat! Of all things. When Steve and I travel south through IA, we always stop at the Iowa visitors' center which is a big red barn on I-35 hwy. Iowa has the best highway restrooms in the entire nation!! That is my humble opinion. ;-)
Did you feel as though you saw lots of trains in NE? Union Pacific's Bailey Yard in North Platte, Nebraska is the largest railroad yard in the world. My brother-in-law is quite an avid fan of trains, and he loves to travel to Nebraska to see them.
So glad you found another Outback. They pop up every once in a while. Love, love their food--as you know!! :-D
