Yesterday Nigel and I enjoyed a very different day - we went on an art course together. It was local and run by Brian Dicker.
It was wonderful - it was big brush painting - much of the picture ... in oils on canvas ... completed with decorating style paint brushes. It was very much int he style of Bob Ross (and yes we were real huge fans of Bob Ross, never missing The Joy of Painting)
In case you are not familiar with Bob Ross this is a sample of an episode. Even if you don't watch it all then do skip to the end.
I wish we had done a mountain but we had fun with what we did and we each left with an almost completed canvas at the end of it. It was not by any means perfect - it has lots of errors and bits that were rushes (to do it in just 5 hours was a push) but we learnt loads of techniques and it was the first time either of us had used oil paints. We were both tired when we got home - it had been a very hard work relax. Such fun though and we will definitiely do another course with Brian.
Once they have dried - they could take a week - I will take pictures. They are the same photo but quite different and there are bits of Nigel's I prefer and bits of mine I prefer.
I have new scrapping to share with a new release by Tiramisu called Tropical
I used it to scrap the Caribbean Beach - and act of faith really as the resort is undergoing huge renovations and changes and I am not sure we will ever stay there again. We will try Port Orleans Riverside next time. It is going to have to go some to beat CBR though - it is a beautiful resort ... or at least it was.
Today I am thankful for
- scrapping time
- chilling time
- classes taken together
- a starbucks by the water
I remember watching Bob Ross every Saturday on our PBS (Public Broadcast Station) in Fairbanks. His voice was always so soothing.
I never painted along with him, but I just enjoyed watching how he seemed a canvas into an amazing landscape like magic!
So wonderful that you and Nigel are enjoying creative adventures together. Do you two dance?
