We had fun today making a countdown for Disney.
I wanted something like the perpetual calendars that we could use to look forward to our vacation this August.
I knew what I wanted it to look like - it was just more challenging than I imagined.
First the wood - I wanted cubes about 2". Mmmm. What to get. Of course I could have ordered cubes on line but that would have meant waiting and I needed it NOW!
First stop Toys R Us for some traditional building blocks.
They don't make those anymore - well not for Toys R Us at least.
Big dice? No!
Next stop B and Q and Nigel found a stair bannister that whilst it had gloriously tunred middle bits had enough each end for what we wanted.
Nigel then cut me 4 cubes and a rectangular base.
Then to cover them. The papers were too big sesigns so I used some digicatl papers by Creating Memories and Dawn Inskip (her A Wonderful World collection) I resized them so the designs were smaller and then printed them off and covered the blocks.
I sanded the edges for a worn feel and then added numbers and stickers (again printed at home)
The whole lot was mod podged to seal it.
The base was made from a small wooden plinth and chipboard, all painted black.
The perfect countdown for us.
The sad thing is I just cannot wait to use it ... but we can't start using it until 99 days before the trip. Maybe I should have made a countdown clock for the days to countdown before I could use the countdown!
Today I am thankful for
- Projects worked on together
