We had our third street party last night and it was fabulous.
Itw as a bit of a risk as it was a 'let's have a party for the hell of it' party.
Nigel and I had organised two previous parties, both for royal events. One was for the royal wedding in 2011 and one for the diamond jubilee in 2012. Everyone said they loved it so much they asked if we would organise one every year.
So we did.
I have to say it isn't a lot of organisation. It's very simple ... more a street picnic than a party.
We just design flyers and put them through the doors.
We live ina small close and so everyone just brings their own tables and chairs and food and drink - though we all tend to bring extra sharingt hings to share with neighbours. It's just really nice to get to know everyone and had brought the close so much 'closer' (sorry - couldn't resist)
We started at 5 pm and partied through till after midnight. It was just a really nice evening and the weather was perfect.
However we were both terribly tired. We just don't have the staying power these days LOL
Very quiet day today and fell asleep in front of Wimbledon this afternoon - though we did wake in time to see Murray win.
Seems apt to share this page I made two years ago with one of Dawn's collections.
I have another page made with Dawn's latest collection... young at heart
I am awfully rude to my little boy!
Today I am thankful for
- lazy days
- fans (it is very humid and we don't live in a civilised country where there is air conditioning ... mind you that is probably as it isn't worth it for the week you might actually need it)
- tennis - loved watching the bit I was awake for
Our Village of 60 homes has been talking about having a "night out"--- tables set up, everyone brings foods to share, and chit chat. But I'm not an "outdoor" girl, and thinking about eating out there with flies, ants, spiders, and mosquitos just does not appeal to me.
Do you have mosquitos where you live? They are so nasty!
Hahahaha! Good thing Fiki doesn't read your layouts! ;-)
I like to watch Wimbledon, too, but just couldn't get into it this year. Maybe because I'm still trying to recover from my trip to Kansas. You are right about the "staying power". I seem to hit the brick wall 'way too often these days!
Oh, I just thought of something--- your street party was for the celebration of a new royal about to be born! :-) Have you placed your bet on boy or girl?
