Well I feel like I have had a summer day out today. Nigel was off work and so we headed off to do something summery and exciting we had long wanted to do and never ever had.
We went to Lulworth Castle.
It was a beautiful sunny day though very very windy. We are blessed to live in a beautiful part of the country. People come all over to stay in Dorset and enjoy the Jurassic coast and the gorgeous rolling scenery.
Walking was not on the agenda today (so how come I have done a lot) and so we didn't head for one of our fave places of Kimmeridge. But the drive over the ranges was lovely as we headed towards Lulworth.
It was £9.50 to get in which we thought was quite expensive as we expected there to be very little there. As it was it was good value for money as we had a lovely time.
The castle must be one of the newest castles in the country, having been build in 1606, ata time when most nobles were building manor houses rather than castles. We learnt a lot about the history of the castle, the Weld family and the area. The castle had been gutted in a fire in the 1920's and it was sad to not see it in its full glory but a fascinating story.
Nigel made the climb up to the tower but the many many flights of stairs were not possible for me - I had enough trouble hobbling around on the flat and feeling like I was 90.
They also had jousting on. I know Yizz was disappointed when she saw it and so we had very low expectations, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. They did some good stunts and it was a very pleasant quintisentially English afternoon.
We made our way back home, stopping at B and Q for, of all things, child lock. No, we don't have children but we do have a Fiki who opens every cupboard door known to man. Or at least he does when he is on form. He was getting so much better but seems to have had a relapse the last two days and is very timid again. I KNOW he isn't ill but I hate to see him worried like he is.
We finished our day off with a visit to TGI - all in all a lovely day out.
