It's been one of those lovely relaxing days today.
OK so I have done a couple of much needed loads of laundry, but it's been a great day.
I had some lovely mother's day cards from the fur family (yes - we are truly bonkers, but very happy!) I find mother's day very hard every year. It never seems to get any easier. I miss her terribly and mother's day is a bit of an ordeal.
However, we have Nigel's mom coming over for a meal any minute. She wasn't with us for Christmas this year, and one of her favourite meals is Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, so that is what i am making for her today. Turkey, stuffing, parsnips, etc etc and even Christmas pud for dessert.
We have listed another load of clothes on ebay and I have even managed a little light scrapping - though not a great deal that i can share - as usual.
This is another page for my dolls house album
The formal drawing room was the very first room we did and probably has the most basic furniture too. We decorated it with regular wallpaper and it is a nicer blue than it looks in the pictures. I wouldn't choose it again and it is a room I am not totally happy with. However, it is very formal.
There are some stand outs I love in the room. The watercolour on the back wall is one I painted. There are some gorgeous pictures and glasswear and ornaments int he china cabinet and the corner unit, including a tiny photo frame with a picture of Cinders in. Cinders was the first cat we lost, back in 2000, and so when we decorated this in late 2000 it was appropriate that she was there.
The dado rail and dentil coving were a challenge for me. I used my new miniature mitre block for the first time.
The table and cabinets are very cheap (and look it) but the chaise, sofa and wing arm chair are by Maggie Brown and are a nice quality.
The lounge has a balcony with french doors out and the curtains in here were made again by reverie and are gorgeous.
Christmas comes to this room too.
Jackie S you asked about travelling to America and what to do that was relaxing. I gather you are off to New York. There is loads to see and do in New York itself obviously. I recommend a trip to Ellis Island which moved me (of the two I would recomend Ellis Island rather than Liberty island.) We did a helicopter tour too which was awesome and also I recommend the open top bus tour as it is hop on and off and you learn a great deal. Plus the other must sees like 5th avenue, Empire State Building, etc.
However, if you have a car (you won't want it in Manhattan, believe me, )then maybe a drive north into new England. it is so beautiful up there. My brother in law lives in New England.
Today I am thankful for
- lazy Sundays
- getting rid of some of my clothes
and finally today I just HAD to share this.
Enjoy!!!! http://mail.google.com/mail/help/motion.html
